Or at least recipes are. I'm finally done transferring all the recipes to the format we are going to use. Now all I have to do is print them out, bind them, and start selling. Hopefully I run out very soon.
I also got a response from Safeway. They decided not to give me money. Oh well. That's okay. Thanks anyway for considering me. I think they actually though I was just a scam, because in the response letter they sent me the words "non-profit" were underlined and italicized. That's okay though. Saturday I'm going to start making appointments to see other companies. Hopefully I'll be seeing companies pretty regularly. Hopefully they'll actually start giving me money too.

My Bad . .

Sorry it's been so long since I last blogged. I guess having the ads thing say I can't use it anymore kind of made me depressed. I promise I'll try to keep up on it more from now on.
Let's see . . . I've been super busy lately. School's been giving me a lot of homework, and it makes it hard for me to get on here every day. I have to sleep at some point during the day. I've also been working really hard on my cookbook. I have a couple people that are willing to buy, and a couple places that are willing to advertise for me. Of course, I have to finish it first, and that's been proving kind of hard. I have all of my recipes, but I have to transfer them to another format before I can print them all out, so I have to type all of these into that format, which is taking time. I'm about halfway through now.
Mom has also decided that this week is the time to clean, so all the time that I could have spent on the computer typing my cookbook, I've had to spend cleaning. Now, for most people, it would be a job that takes a couple of hours, at most. No, not for me. I'm just a little OCD, so stuff like vacuuming the couch, cleaning off the cabinets, cleaning my room, can each take hours to do. It's a very good way to keep me occupied.
I went to a Naturpath Monday, because my back's been hurting a lot lately. She told me it's likely because I'm stressed, so she gave me a couple of exercises to do and told me to eat better and drink more water. Hopefully it works.

Today K103, a radio station here, came and recorded the Advanced Womens Ensemble and the Concert Choir. We sang It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year for Womens and Do You Hear What I Hear for Concert. They sounded REALLY good. I'm kind of starting to feel bad for my third period teacher though, because this is the 3 time in the last 2 weeks that Mr. Karn has pulled me out of class for something. Twice for the HARTS Assembly and now this. So I feel like my third period class is being kind of neglected.

I am awesome

So I got my PSAT scores back on Friday. I got 68 on everything. I got the highest score in my school. I got my scores when I was talking to my counselors, when I was asking them about a program that allows you to go to college in high school. He actually recomended that I don't do it, because I would be bored. So instead of taking a few college coarses in high school and then taking three years of college, I'm still going to take all 4 years of college, but I'm going to take a bunch of AP coarses and then get college credit for them.

I had FREE TIME!

Today was an early release day at school, so I got out at about 11:20. The stars must have aligned today, because not only was it an early release, but I had almost no homework, so for most of the afternoon I had some time to myself. This almost never happens on any days except weekends, so I decided to take full advantage of my free time. I spent the afternoon reading. It's a good book. It's called Anubis Gate, and if you like fiction, adventure, danger, and possibly a little romance, this is definetally a book for you. I think it is pretty good. But that's what I spent most of afternoon doing. Yay for me time.

Stupid ads.

Yeah, I don't know if you noticed, but the total of zero money earned isn't a mistake. The website I was using to earn the money through the ads has said that I am having too few people click on too many ads. So all the money I had earned is now gone. I don't have it anymore. Which sucks. So, now I will have to earn all of my money by fundraising and sponsors. We'll see how well this goes. I was really liking the ads program.

recipes, recipes, recipes . . .

I spent hours and hours on the computer today looking at recipes for my cookbook. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find Dutch lunch recipes? Let me tell you, it is HARD. It took me almost an hour to find them. I spent from 2-7 on the computer for these recipes, so I hope people like them. Now I just have to put them into the format I want, which will have to wait until tomorrow. At least then it is fairly easy work.

I hate crooked judges!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had debate today, and I either had two really crooked judges or judges that didn't know what they were doing. If you drop something in a case, you are then agreeing to the point that your opponent is trying to make. Not only did my opponents drop points in my cases, all but one dropped MY WHOLE CASE. They are then agreeing with my case. And, in my first round, my opponent was rude to the judge. Here is the conversation:
Me: My opponent has completely dropped my case, so he is therefore agreeing with my case, so I have won this debate. (basically)
Him: I didn't go over her case because the points that are in her case were already disputed in my case. I assumed that the judge wasn't a dumb beast and would apply it to my opponent's case.
If someone is rude then they can get no more than 19 points total. I should have won that round, but not only did I not win that round, my opponent went on to place in finals. WHAT THE HELL!!!

My First Debit Card!

I had choir today, which is why this is so late. It's going to be late tomorrow too, because I have a debate meet. Hopefully it won't run to 10 like it did last time. We didn't even get home until midnight.
Today, started telling people at school about my cookbooks, and hopefully I will get some orders. I have to sell 10 to cover everything and make a profit. Let's do that quickly. I also got my debit card for my account today, and then had it quickly confiscated by my dad. Hopefully, I will soon be seen fit to have it back. But now it is official that I have an account. YAY!

What is up with the 3's?!

Today was a really weird day. EVERYTHING I saw ended up somehow being a multiple of three. For example, at the moment I am writing this it is 8:05. Eight plus five is equal to thirteen. Thirteen is one and three. Three times one is three. I've had stuff like that going on all day. My dad started it. Blame him. Also, there was a lock down today in school because of an armed car jacking a mile away. That was crazy. So today's been pretty weird.
I already have one seller of my cookbook. I went to an office store to find things that I would need to make them, such as index cards, and binding rings. We were talking to the lady there, and told her about what we were doing. She said she likes cookbooks, and always wanted to travel but never did it enough, and that she would totally but a cookbook from me. So one sale already. While there, me and mom calculated that with the cost of binding, if I sell 50, I'll make about $425. That's a pretty good profit. I really hope that this works.

Of Course, a COOKBOOK!

My mom is brilliant. She came up with the best idea for fundraising today. A COOKBOOK! And not just any cookbook, but a cookbook of recipes from the countries I'm going to. How brilliant is that?! I haven't researched the recipes yet, but she gave me a website, and I'm going to do it right after I'm done blogging. There will be a total of about 60 recipes from 4 countries. It won't cost too much money for me to do, and I will be able to carry them with me and sell them all the time.
One more thing to add on the list of the brilliantness of mom.

Today I talked to ALL my classes and told them about my blog. I see I'm getting more new people every day, so it must be working. But for some reason I'm not getting enough money. Remember, I get money for EACH AD YOU CLICK. You don't need to limit yourself to just one. Or two. Or ten.
I also asked some of my teachers if I needed to get approved to fund raise, and if there were any hoops I needed to jump through before I would be allowed to fund raise. They said a resounding yes. If I don't go through the right paperwork then I won't be able to keep any of the money I fund raise at school. They told me to talk to the administrators to get it started. SOOO, tomorrow I go to the administrators and all official looking people to ask what I have to do to get approved.

church and Fundraisers

Today I went to church, and while there I asked them if they had a donation request form. Actually, they didn't even know. They gave me the email of someone who might know, but who is notorious for not answering his emails. I also asked if it would be okay for me to sell poinsettas at the church. Once again, they directed me to the same person. We'll see what happens with that.
So, on to fundraisers. My mom found this website that has a list of wacky fundraisers. One of them was called "flower shower". I place a pinwheel flower in each of my classrooms, telling the teacher what it is for. I'll try to make sure it is something really annoying. Then, I tell them that to get rid of it, they have to pay 10 dollars to send it to another teachers classroom. To send it to someone and find out who sent it to them originally, they have to pay 15 dollars. I think I'll keep it going for about 3 weeks, then stop, then another 3 weeks, and keep alternating. I think that one will be fun.
Another one that I think will work well is a pajama day. Pay 2 dollars to wear your pajamas to school for a day. That one probably won't work as well, but if I make it wear a hat for a day, it will probably get a lot.
If you have any fundraising ideas, leave me a comment. Yes, it must be legal, and if you don't want your mom to see it, participate, or find out about it, I probably won't do it.

My First Account

Today I went to Safeway and turned in the donation form that they needed so they could sponsor me. After I did that I went into the Wells Fargo and opened an "teen banking account" with them. It is a joint account with my mom, but I'm the primary person. This account is going to be just for the money I've raised to go to Europe. Hopefully there will be a lot of money in there very soon. I'm excited, because this is the first bank account I have ever had. It's not a checking account, so I can't use checks, but I will get my own debit card, which is pretty cool. Now I just have to hope I remember the pin number. It shouldn't be too hard for me. Hopefully. Soon, mom will show me how to set up a paypal account so that I can recieve donations online. Mom also had a really good idea today. I'm going to start asking all the colleges that want me to go to their school to sponsor me. It doesn't mean I'm going to go to that college if they do, but it will definetally move them higher up on my list.

About Experience Europe

Experience Europe is the trip that I am going on through People to People. This is a glimpse at the things I might be doing while on the trip.
We start out in the the Netherlands, in Amsterdam. We will cruise through the canals of this city that used to be underwater. Next we will travel to Anne Frank's hiding place during World War 2. As we explore her hiding place we will get the chance to marvel at the determination and will of this young girl and her family. We will then move on and watch as master craftsmen create traditional Dutch clogs and cheese.
We move on to Brussels, Belgium. We will walk through the Grand Palace, also known as the heart of Brussels. We will then get a taste of the true Belgium as we watch chocolatiers create their delicious world-famous delicacies.
Now we travel to Paris, France, also known as the City of Love. We go to the top of the Eiffel Tower and take in the breath-taking view. We will go the Louvre Museum and there see some of their most favorite exhibits: the Mona Lisa, Venus de Mila, and Winged Victory. We will then take a stroll through the Champs-Elysees and admire the elegant Arc de Triomphe. Afterward, we will explore the awe-inspiring Notre Dame Cathedral. Next on the list is the Montmatre district. This bohemian style district is a great place to purchase a painting. Before we leave Paris we must sample some the famous French delicacies, including frog legs and escargot.
Our last stop in Paris is the luxurious Palace of Versailles.
We will stop in Caen, France and remember those who have come and gone before us as walk the beaches of Normandy. We will honor those who died for us at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial.

We travel to Oxford, England. We will explore this famous town that blends ancient architecture and modern business together. Before we leave we will "punt" along the river for a leisurely ride in a pole boat.
Our last stop before we leave is London, England.We will get to know the Beefeaters, official guards of the Tower of London, and hear about the tower’s many functions over the last 10 centuries. We will hear an insider’s perspective on British government from a member of Parliament.We will cruise past Big Ben and other London landmarks on a Thames riverboat. We will re-create life in the Middle Ages—complete with lunch with King Henry VIII! We will then relive a tense moment in history in the Cabinet War Rooms where Winston Churchill commanded Britain during World War II.
Outside Buckingham Palace, we will watch for the flag to see if the queen is in. then we will experience the ceremonial changing of the guard. We will take in a play or musical in the West End, considered the capital of the theater world. We will enjoy an evening on the grounds of Warwick Castle, where a medieval encampment brims with music, games, and colorful characters—from knights to rat catchers. We will train to wage war as a knight, and watch the world’s largest trebuchet (catapult) in action. Finally, we will soar over the city in the London Eye, the world’s largest Ferris wheel before we return home with a new experience, and hopefully a new outlook, to share.

Visiting Potential Sponsors

Today I went to 2 potential sponsors. I got 1 no and 2 maybes. I won't talk about the one that said no. However, the other one I went to was a local Safeway. Who knew that you had to fill out a "donation request form" in order to ask them for money? Oh well, it's not like it's super hard information, just asking what I'm doing and what I want their help with. I'll probably go back Friday or Saturday to turn in the form. Then, mom and I went into a Wells Fargo that was in the store. We're thinking about setting up a "teen banking" account, so I have an account that will be specifically for my money for Europe. If we do set up the account, there won't be any fee for signing up. We also asked them if it was possible for them to sponsor me. The person said it would be hard to say. First I would have to approved, and then I have to send in a request form. Well, a few maybes is better then all no's, which is what my mom was expecting. So not a bad day.
Today I went to 2 potential sponsors. I got 1 no and 2 maybes. I won't talk about the one that said no. However, the other one I went to was a local Safeway. Who knew that you had to fill out a "donation request form" in order to ask them for money? Oh well, it's not like it's super hard information, just asking what I'm doing and what I want their help with. I'll probably go back Friday or Saturday to turn in the form. Telling the world and earning money

Yesterday I started telling my classes about my blog. I told them that it was to help me to raise money for Europe, and to click on the ads so I can raise money. Well, it's working. I've raised almost $22 in 2 days. If you've been helping me, thank you so much. I won't start getting checks until I raise $100, so please continue. Don't feel afraid to tell your friends. The more people are doing this the sooner I can stop worrying about whether I'll be able to go. So tell your friends, your relatives, anybody. Every click helps. Also, it would be nice if I knew just how many people actually cared about this. So, please become a follower. It's free, and very easy, you just need an email. First Presentations soon

Sorry about not posting for the last couple of days. I've been busy getting some letters ready to present. My first presentations will be on Wednesday. The companies I'm going for a pretty big, so if everything goes well I should be able to get a fair amount of money. One of the potential sponsor has donation jars that they do. They switch it up about every 2 weeks to a month, and I'm hoping to have a jar with them. I'm pretty good at presenting myself professionally, so everything should go well. I had a debate meet today, which is why I'm posting so late. I'm really tired. But I think debate went well. I think I won at least one round, but I won't know until tomorrow. I hope I place so that I can go up to open level. What I really like about debate meets is that the people get really close. It's my 3rd meet and already we've become friends. I was going to post tonight, because I'm really tired, but my dad, who is an ass by the way, told me I had to. I have some people who have commented. You are also very welcome to comment. Mom had decided that every week I have to write 5 letters to the bussinesses that I want to have donate money to help me. She has three in particular that she wants me to do for the first few. Hopefully I can have them done on time. That is really a lot of work for me to do on top of my school work and debate. Speaking of debate, I have a debate meet tomorrow. Hopefully I win 4 rounds this week instead of just 3. Wish me luck!

Bussiness to call

My mom gave me the number for a store that has "great will". One thing that I forgot to mention that I am willing to do is to work in a store for a day to make the money for my trip. She wants me to call their number, see if they will make an appointment with me for my original letter, and then offer to work for them for a day to make up for the money.
Another thing I'm thinking of doing is collecting cans. No, not the cans off the street. That's a way for people who are homeless to get money, and I don't want to take that money away from them. I'm going to collect them from people and then recycle them. My mom thinks I can get quite a bit of money from doing that. I hope she's right. I still don't have any money for the trip.

Starting my letters

After a lengthy discussion with my dad about my homework and the left- and right-wing, I started working on the letters I am going to send to different companies for sponsorships. I've only started on few, and it has been really hard for me to find information on each of the companies so I can customize each letter. So far I've started letters for 21st Street Imaginations, which from what I can gather has something to do with electronics, and 360 Imports LLC, which seems to be a business that ships things internationally. It has been really hard to customize them based on just this simple information. I can't even figure out who the owners are! Hopefully I'll be able to get some more information on them soon. Does anybody know a good free website that will allow me to find out more information about the businesses I'm sending these letters to?

About People to People

People to People is the program that is allowing me to go to Europe. It was founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956. He believed that if people from different countries came together in peace then eventually so would those countries. He created the People to People Ambassadors program to promote this, and decided to focus it specifically on young people. This program has had support from all of the U.S. Presidents since Eisenhower, and hopefully it will continue to. People to People has four programs: Student Ambassador, Sports Ambassador, Leadership, and Citizen Ambassador. In case you haven't realized yet, I'm in the first one. It travels to all seven continents, and has unparalleled access because it has been around for 40 years. The specific program I am in is called Experience Europe. But more about that next time . . .

Today I announced in all of my classes that I had started a blog. I asked everyone to go on and at least look, and if they were REALLY nice to please click on any of the ads they see (you too!). Hopefully I'll get approved soon to use them. I also installed a counter to see how many hits I've gotten on this blog. Hopefully it will start going up really soon. It should start going up once I've told everyone my address for the website. I wonder how long it will take before you can find my website from Google? Well, if you aren't from my school, then it probably didn't take very long, because I don't know how else you would find out about this. Once again, if you have any ideas to help me fundraise, please comment.

My very first blog!

Um, well...like the title says, this is my first blog. I am doing this to hopefully help raise money so I can go as a student ambassador to Europe this summer. Sounds really cool, I know. But this is turning out to be a lot more work than I thought it was going to be. I have to write a bunch of letters to different companies to see if they would like to sponsor me (please, please, please!) and my mom expects me to raise most of the money, so I am way stressed about it. So today, I made a draft of the letters that I will send to the different companies. Who knew there were over 400 companies listed on a certain "knowing" website in Vancouver? I didn't. I guess I am going to have to customize the letter to each company and then send them. So. Much. Work. I hope that at least some of them answer. $6,000 dollars is a lot have to raise in 6 months. Plus I have to raise extra if I want any money to spend while I'm in Europe. Of course, Europe is where I'm going on the Ambassador program. 2 weeks in Europe, when I've never even gone gone out of the Pacific North West. It will definitely be interresting, and I am really looking forward to going. If any body has any ideas feel free to post them. I WANT FEEDBACK!!!!! I was going to wait until I got a following and then ask local businesses to put a link on my blog and pay me every time someone clicked on my link. You know what I found out?
